UNIQUE METHODS ADOPTED.
Robert Frost once said “I took the path less traveled and it’s made me what I am today”. We follow that principle, we felt that the doing just the regular activities was not enough to satisfy our thirst for service so along those we decided to do something bigger, something more unique, something that would help the community in realizing its vision for a society without the sufferings, hardships that people face. In realizing this dream of ours, we adopted the following methods ?
101 WISHES ORGANIZATION
101 wishes is an organization started by the alumni of the NSS Unit of Vanitha Maha Vidyalaya college and consists of current NSS volunteers too. The alumni of the college wanted to keep on working towards their vision for a better society through the college and this organization was the result. The members of this organization have one vision, to mitigate the sufferings and deprivation of people, they help the less-fortunate children, women and youth get a foothold in the society. It’s a one-of-a-kind organization and you can find more details in the brochure enclosed. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – MK. Gandhi
LITERACY PROGRAM
We consider education to be a very important factor in the betterment of the society and here in the NSS unit of college, we are trying our very best to improve the literacy levels.
“Today’s children are tomorrow’s youth” – We strongly believe this and it is because of this that we are concentrating a lot on the children living the slum areas of Gandhi Bhavan near our college. We identify all the school drop-outs and rejoin them in the schools.
We do not limit ourselves to the slum-areas near our college in fact, we are following the same principle in the villages that we visit. We motivate children from remote villages and we have been successful in joining more than 80 children from remote places in Social-welfare hostels in Hyderabad as a part of the NSS. All of their needs, requirements are being taken care.
“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” – Theodore Roosevelt

UNIQUE METHOD ADOPTED FOR THE PAST 5 RURAL CAMPS (HOME STAY)
The NSS Unit adopted one mandal at a time and the volunteers were made to stay at the Sarpanch’s house or the local DWACRA leader’s house. This promoted inter-communal and inter-personal understanding among the volunteers and the interactions the students had with the rural people helped the students in becoming aware about the various problems that the villagers face. This method was instrumental in promoting all-round development of the students. This method even helped the villagers to know about the work that the NSS volunteers were doing. It was instrumental in us being able to cover many villages.
Being a Senior Program Officer, I got an opportunity to visit and help the volunteers. I have visited the following camps so far.
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN PROGRAM
This is a new program started by us. Every year, All India Industrial Exhibition is set up in the college grounds so this year, we acquired a stall in it to sell paper-bags, paper-jewellery, Eco-friendly items like jute-bags and other items. More than 150 volunteers benefit from this program.
“Every noble work is at first impossible.” – Thomas Carlyle
SLUM-CHILDREN EDUCATION
In the months of June to December, every evening you can see many children in the college premises. NSS Volunteers take classes for more than 100 slum-children education during the evening. It has resulted in many slum-children benefiting from it. They not only teach school-subjects but even take a few classes on personality development & games.
“Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
ADOPTION OF SOCIAL WELFARE HOSTEL CHILDREN
More than 1000 children have been adopted by NSS Volunteers in 4 hostels. They spend time with them every second-Saturday and other holidays and take tuition for them. It’s almost as though the children have an elder-sister. They enjoy thoroughly and it’s not only benefiting them but even the volunteers have an employment opportunity as tutors.
“CHEER A DAY” PROGRAMME.
Volunteers conducted cultural programs every 3rd Friday for MNJ Cancer hospital. Every single day of the year, 5 volunteers visited Niloufer hospital and aided rural patients by helping them find their way through the hospital, cultural programs were conducted in the children’s ward to entertain them.
“I slept and dream t that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” – Rabindranath Tagore
INVOLVEMENT OF OTHER NGO’S
We are involving NGO’s to show the volunteers that for every second of sorrow, there is a moment of happiness, make them realize that there are two sides of a coin and not everything in this world is sad. We are helping them merge into the society. The following are the programs that have been conducted for them.
